The research done on CBD oil has shown it to be quite effective in treating a range of symptoms and in helping the body operate smoother. However, due to the source of CBD oil, its association with marijuana, and the inconsistencies in American law regarding cannabis products, many people are still unsure about the legal status of CBD products.

CBD Is Legal

The good news is that CBD products are legal nationwide, in all 50 states.

It is important to remember that CBD oil is a completely different product than marijuana, and the two have distinct effects on the body. Both are the products of cannabis plants, and both contain high levels of chemicals known as endocannabinoids, the two most prominent being CBD and THC.

The main difference between these two is their level of psychoactivity. THC is responsible for the high level of psychoactivity that marijuana is famous for. However, CBD oil is derived from hemp plants rather than marijuana plants. Hemp contains high levels of CBD, but the amount of THC it contains is so low that its effects are negligible. Therefore, CBD oil contains such a low amount of THC that it is legal under federal government regulations, even though marijuana is not.

CBD Oil Does Not Get You ‘High’

This also means that consuming CBD oil will not get you high; it will, however have other positive effects on your body. CBD works with your body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS), which is a system of receptors found in the brain and all through the body via the nervous system. The ECS is a key factor in the process of homeostasis, which is in charge of keeping our body in balance by regulating our hunger levels, pain levels, mood, memory, immune system functions, and more. Various studies have also shown the use of CBD oil to have a positive effect on the symptoms of depression, heart disease, schizophrenia, opioid withdrawals, and many more.

CBD Oil for Pediatric Patients

To summarize, there are numerous studies showing how beneficial CBD oil can be for adults. But what about children? Obviously, medicines that are safe for adults are not automatically safe for children as well. However, many case studies have performed extensive tests and concluded that CBD products can indeed be both safe and beneficial for children if taken properly.

This has been shown not just by scientific research, but by specific case studies as well. The Permanante Journal, a peer-reviewed journal focused on medicinal research, published a study in 2016 on the effects of CBD when taken by a 10-year old girl. The girl was suffering from PTSD, which led to her struggling with anxiety and not getting enough sleep. She was prescribed a dose of CBD which was consumed every night at bedtime. Over the next 5 months, the girl saw a gradual decrease of her anxiety symptoms and began to get much better sleep. More good news: there were no observed side effects!

It is important to remember, however, that CBD oil is still a very new industry, and a lot of testing needs to be done to determine its true level of effectiveness and safety. The good news is the vast majority of studies so far have shown CBD oil to be an extremely safe and beneficial product for adult use, as well as potentially being safe for children. It is also legal across the entire United States and considered a legitimate dietary supplement by the federal government.
